"Even God had a Welsh name : he spoke to him in the old language; he was to have a peculiar care for the Welsh people. History showed us he was too big to be nailed to the wall of a stone chapel, yet still we crammed him between the boards of a black book"
R.S Thomas

Nonconformist worship has been a part of Welsh culture for centuries, however the chapels themselves are more than just places of worship; they operated as community centres for even the most remote clusters of houses. Of the over 6000 built, fewer than 700 remain as chapels (a number that decreses every year), with the remainder either at best, converted into homes, shops or for another use, or at worst demolished or left to decay.
This project is currently ongoing.
